Jinan's Baihuazhou, a historic cultural block in Lixia district, welcomed waves of visitors during the May Day holiday, its ancient lanes alive with the charm of the ''City of Springs''. Known for its bubbling springs, willow-shaded courtyards, and traditional architecture, the area blended history with modern vibrancy as tourists wore zanhua (a floral headdress), turning the streets into a ''living garden'' of color.
''I came from Beijing just to see Baihuazhou,'' said Ms. Xiao, a visitor. ''The preserved architecture and the zanhua tradition create such a poetic, immersive experience—it feels like stepping into history.''
As part of Jinan's cultural vitalization, Baihuazhou celebrated its full reopening with new attractions and hands-on experiences. Alongside 27 permanent shops and 30 intangible cultural heritage stalls, the site launched 20 interactive workshops, including kite-making and gourd painting, inviting visitors to explore traditional Shandong crafts. ''We aimed to blend preservation with participation,'' said Liang Hui, deputy director of the management center.
Three new flagship venues anchor the district: a traditional craft studio, a public theater for local arts, and a folk museum. Trendy additions like bookstores, artisan cafés, and creative markets add fresh appeal, turning Baihuazhou into a cultural corridor that honors Jinan's past while embracing its future.
With willow branches swaying above stone paths, Baihuazhou's seamless mix of tranquility and energy left a lasting impression—proving that cultural heritage can thrive in the heart of a modern city.
