Jinan's ancient town is a key area in Lixia district undergoing significant transformation for 2024 in an effort to blend urban renewal with cultural preservation. As part of its UNESCO World Heritage bid for the "Spring City Cultural Landscape", the project aims to revive Jinan's historic charm while enhancing its modern appeal.

A centerpiece of the renewal is the restoration of Taiyi Spring, which has resurfaced after being hidden for 50 years. The spring's original features are being preserved, alongside traditional streetscapes and cultural nodes. This restoration reflects Jinan’s unique landscape, where springs, mountains, and rivers define the city's heritage.

In recent years, Jinan has focused on protecting its ancient town through renovations and spring-themed scenes. By October, 18 spring courtyards will be restored and key streets will reopen with modern upgrades.

Jinan is also enhancing the ancient town's commercial appeal by bringing in both local heritage brands and new experiences. Through its strategy, the city is promoting creative industries and tourism to ensure that its rich history remains central to its future.
