On Feb 13, Xinhua Daily Telegraph highlighted the vibrant cultural scene at Baihuazhou, a historical and cultural block in Lixia district, Jinan. The area offers over 40 intangible cultural heritage projects that blend traditional architecture with modern cultural vitality.
Visitors can experience local craftsmanship, such as at Xiangqun Shadow Puppetry Studio, where traditional puppets and shadow-puppet themed jewelry attract younger audiences. At Jingyun Pavilion, 10-year-old He Yanxi creates cloisonné enamel art, with simplified techniques helping visitors quickly engage with the process.
Baihuazhou also offers unique cultural fusions, like the Bazirou (braised pork) ice cream, combining local flavors with popular dessert trends, which became a sensation among the younger crowd.
The block honors Jinan's history, deriving its name from Baihua Terrace and Baihua Dike built during the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279). Recent renovations preserved its ancient charm while introducing local crafts, and it officially reopened in May 2024.
Today, Baihuazhou is a popular destination in Jinan with workshops, a folk museum, and a heritage theater. Its picturesque alleys, filled with visitors in hanfu (traditional Chinese attire), have attracted over 1.8 million visitors since reopening.
Baihuazhou stands as a lively symbol of Jinan's rich heritage, seamlessly blending preservation with innovation.
